Case 42

A 31-year old man presents at the emergency room with retrosternal discomfort. ECG and blood results came back negative. A chest X-ray was done to exclude a pulmonary origin.

Bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage revealed an opaque fluid and high level of Ig G antibodies to GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating-factor).

Final diagnosis


Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
