The book addresses prominent aspects of hypermedia publishing. Its goal is to convey new ideas and concepts on how to design usable hypermedia documents and is based on practical experience collected in various hypermedia publishing projects in the last five years. The topics discussed are equally relevant both for hypermedia publishing on the Web and on CD-ROM.
The book consists of four parts:
- Information Structuring
- Visualization
- Multimedia Editing
- Hypermedia Publishing
The book describes four topics in hypermedia publishing in-depth and with new ideas. It is not a "cookbook about how to use internet tools", i.e. a commented listing of the command syntax of ftp, telnet, Mosaic, etc. Rather, it gives advice about how to author multimedia documents for the internet, such that they are perceived best by the reader, using tools and techniques such as Cybermap, overview map, path editor, Videoscheme, or techniques like algorithm animation. Phrased differently, the book describes underlying concepts, but not the command syntax.
Audience:
- Professionals who want to build usable hypermedia documents
- Computer science researchers who want to get an overview in the fields "information exploration, navigation in hyperspace, hypermedia interface design, multimedia publishing, algorithm animation and visualization".
