A few comments and instructions about the web-based version of the work.

In keeping with the concepts outlined in the book, we have attempted to recreate some of the tools and structures presented by the author

Technical Requirements

• A browser capable of supporting the following features:
  • Frames
  • Javascript 1.1
  • Client-side image maps
• A screen resolution of 800x600 or greater
• For best results, we strongly recommend Netscape Navigator 3.0

We have also tested the book using Netscape Navigator 2.02 and Microsoft Explorer 3.0. Some functions such as the ViewFinder may not work due to differences in Javascript implementations.

Instructions for navigating the book.

Your browser will be organized into five(5) distinct frames (top to bottom, left to right):

1. Publisher Information
2. General Navigation
3. Active Table of Contents
4. Body of book
5. The ViewFinder

As you surf around, you will most likely be using the general navigation features and the Viewfinder to move around.

1. General Navigation
   
   

   One,Two,Three,Four - Take you directly to the beginning of each major section of the book. Contents - Opens a new window containing a printable version of the contents of the book. Title Page - Returns you to the beginning of the book. Chapter Start - Returns you to the beginning of the current chapter. Next Page - Takes you to the next section of the book. Prev Page - Takes you to the previous section of the book. Index - An alphabetized and linked index of key words and phrases. Feedback - A form for providing comments and suggestions about the book. You can, at any time, go directly to a chapter by typing the chapter number in the field next to Goto: and pressing Enter.

2. The Viewfinder
   
   

   The viewfinder is located at the bottom of the browser. It gives the reader a graphical overview of your current location in the book. You may click on any of the vertical bars to go directly to that section. The target section is displayed on the status bar of your browser. The long bar shows the hierarchical structure of the complete book. The red arrow tells you where you are currently located. This frame is constantly updated and scrolled to keep the red arrow visible on the screen. The Viewfinder uses advanced JavaScript features and thus needs Netscape 3.0 to be fully functional, specifically: Javascript calls from within a Client-side image map. Status bar update from within a Client-side image map. The Javascript Scroll method. This feature will work in restricted mode with Netscape 2.0. Microsoft Explorer 3.0 users will be able to use this feature for reference only.
