This is a pure text file. You may need to turn "word wrap" on.

The Excel files in CombatModeling1.zip were written and debugged in Microsoft Corporation's Excel 2003, and then modified to also work with Excel 2007. As time goes by, there is a good chance that some of them will not work in newer versions of Excel. The ones that make no use of macros will probably function correctly, but sheets that employ command buttons or functions written in VBA may report some kind of an error. Since we do not know what kind of changes Microsoft will implement in the future, we can only offer our sympathy and a few words of advice about how to make reluctant sheets function again.

1) Macro security has to be sufficiently permissive. There will be a setting somewhere, we hope.
2) Solver may not be "added in" to Excel. Do so, and then try using it from the pull-down menus, ribbon, or whatever. If that works, try the command button.
3) In both Excel 2003 and 2007, the VBA editor is accessed with ALT-F11. None of the spreadsheets are locked in any way, so everything can be modified if necessary.

Note added in 2018: Chapter3+4.xlsm is written in Excel2016. The page for exercise 6 in that workbook has been rewritten to make it easier to interpret.
