The Systems and Software Research Center conducts basic research currently focusing on:

Concepts and technologies for software systems,
Concepts, tools and processes for the creation and evolution of software,
Multimedia systems and applications,
Database systems and applications,
Internet technologies and applications,
Data networking servers and applications,
Network and services management, and
Information visualization

Research results are new insights in networking and distributed software, novel interfaces, database technologies, software architectures, and software engineering. Based on these insights, innovative prototypes and tools are created and evaluated. Collaborations with universities augment internal efforts. Close partnerships with Business Units aim at quickly deriving business value from research results.

The Systems and Software Research Center is in the Communications Sciences Research Division which is in the Research part of Bell Labs. Bell Labs is the R&D organization for Lucent Technologies. Members of the center are located at Murray Hill, NJ; Holmdel, NJ; and Naperville, IL.
