This Java applet demonstrates the effect of two overlapping p-orbitals. It is an interactive orbital diagram that shows the energies as a function of the distance, overlap and bonding angle between the two p-orbitals. The MOs shown below are simply the combination of two p-AOs and do not demonstrate the changes in electron density caused by the overlap.. The bond energies are meant only as an indicator of relative changes in energy. Again, the demonstration is schematic, but is intended to be as realistic as possible.
