4. The editor window

The editor window allows you to create, to manipulate, to save and to execute XploRe-commandlists (*.xpl files) as well as to feed and save simple data records (*.dat files). It appears another menubar than in the input window or output window.

Program
Click on Program|New to get an empty editor window or on Program|Open to open the Xplore quantlet files (*.xpl). See section program selection window. You also may click on Save or Print. If you click on Program|Page setup, you have the possibility to set up the page e.g. to change the size of your page.
Edit
You can choose between the following commands like undo, cut, copy, paste and delete. Besides, you can go to a column or line where you can delete, insert or duplicate.
Search
You will get more information at find window, replace window and goto line window. It is also possible to set or to goto the bookmark.
Execute
Click on Execute (<ALT+E>) and the actual contents will be processed.
Tools
Here you can find three items. If you click on Format source, you format your sourcecode such that the program blocks like do...until, if...endif, proc...endp, ... are clearly visible. The Insert APSS Template inserts under the first proc above the cursor position a comment which is used to generate the contents of the help-system of XploRe. You will find more information about the Make APSS Help if you see section make help window.

Window
The menu Window and the menu Help have the same functionality as usual.
Help
If you type in the editor window, there are words which have a different meaning, e.g. keywords, constants, ... . They will be expressed with different colours: keywords (red), commands (violet), comments (blue), constants with reference to text and numbers (dark blue), quantlets (green if quantlet is loaded otherwise black), all the other words e.g. variables (black).

You can use the file XploRe_Editor.ini to configurate the editor e.g. with reference to colours.

How to call:

Click on Program|New (<ALT+P><N> or <Ctrl><N>) to get an empty editor window.

The treatment of the contents happens with mouse or keyboard 5. Menupoint Edit (<ALT+E>) contains all important commands for text editing like cut (<CTRL+X>), copy (<CTRL+C>), paste (<CTRL+V>), delete (<DEL>) and undo (<CTRL+Z>).

If you click on the new added menupoint Execute (<ALT+E>), the actual contents will be processed. You will find the results in the output window or graphic window. Annotation:

If you like, you can use your own editor. XploRe processes plain ASCII-files, which can be written by any editor of your choice. Especially, you have no Make APSS Help and no Execute, which could be emulated by the command execfile.
