1. A typical MS-Windows desktop

This version of XploRe is integrated in the common MS-Windows user interface.

After starting XploRe you will get the main window of XploRe which contains a menubar and all other subwindows like the input- and output-window. The menubar contains the basic facilities of using XploRe.

Program
Click on Program|New or on Program|Open. See section program selection window.
Data
You will find more details in data selection window Data|Open.
Main
You will get more information at object list window Main|Objects, function list window Main|Functions, quantlet list window Main|Quantlet and info window Main|Info. Click on Main|Autosave to configurate the Autosave Timer.
Window
You can choose between three windows: input, output and editor. If you go on the input window or output window you will have other menus than in the editor window.
Help
It starts the local help system of XploRe Help|APSS Help.

Generally you will work with the typical window-structure of MS-Windows . It is oriented to handle it with your mouse and your keyboard. More details of working with mouse and keyboard you will find in section 5.


1.1 The program selection window

The program selection window allows you to load existing XploRe files (*.xpl files) in a new editor window.

How to call:

Click on Program|Open... (<ALT+P><O> or <Ctrl><O>).

How to use:

Choose in the file tree Find in (Suchen in) the place of your XploRe files (*.xpl file). Select a specific file with a mouse-click or type the file-name into the text field File name (Dateiname) and confirm it with <Enter> or click on the button Open (Öffnen). Click on button Cancel (Abbrechen) to leave this window.

Annotation:

It is also possible to load ASCII-files with extension other than (x.xpl). In this case change "XploRe file (*.XPL)" in field File type (Dateityp) to "All files (*.*)" .


1.2 The data selection window

The data selection window allows you to load existing datafiles (*.dat files) in an object unnamed.

How to call:

Click on Data|Open... (<ALT+P><O>). Note that your active window has to be the input window.

How to use:

Choose in the file tree Find in (Suchen in) the place of your data records (*.dat files). Select a specific file with a mouse-click or type the file-name into the text field File name (Dateiname) and confirm it with <Enter> or click on the button Open (Öffnen). After clicking on Open the data are stored in a matrix unnamed. Click on button Cancel (Abbrechen) to leave this window.

Annotation:

It is also possible to load other ASCII-files (*). In this case change "Data file (*.DAT)" in field File type (Dateityp) to "All files (*.*)" .


1.3 The object list window

The object list window shows you a list of all objects defined in the current session.

How to call:

Click on Main|Objects (<ALT+M><O>).

How to use:

Double click on an object in the list and it appears a short help about it. Click on the close button of the window titlebar to close the object list window.


1.4 The function list window

The function list window shows you a list of all built-in functions of XploRe.

How to call:

Click on Main|Functions (<ALT+M><F>).

How to use:

Double click on a function and it appears a short help about it. Click on the close button of the window titlebar to close the function list window.


1.5 The quantlet list window

The quantlet list window shows you a list of all quantlets defined in the current session.

How to call:

Click on Main|Quantlets... (<ALT+M><M>).

How to use:

Double click on a quantlet in the list and it appears a short help about it. Click on the close button of the window titlebar to close the quantlet list window.

Annotation:

The abstract is only available if the quantlet is listed in the quantlet index.


1.6 The info window

The info window shows you the current values of XploRe's environment variables (see setenv, getenv).

How to call:

Click on Main|Info (<ALT+M><I>).

How to use:

Click on button OK to leave the window.


1.7 The quit window

The quit window allows you to finish XploRe.

How to call:

Click on Program|Exit (<ALT+P><E>).

How to use:

Confirm the request with Yes (Ja) or refuse it with No (Nein).
