        Congratulations! on acquiring the book

Digital Photoelasticity - Advanced Techniques and Applications

        along with the CD.

The CD contains the source code of various programs mentioned in the
book. Most of these software were written for PIP1024B frame grabber
     of Matrox Corporation, Canada.

Apart from the softwares mentioned in the book, the CD has executable
codes for two demonstration packages namely "pscope.exe" and
"pstdemo.exe". Look for more information on these towards the end of
     this file.

Among the softwares referred in the book, the softwares such as

        fsigma.c,
reconstr.c, | Compile these programs in turbo C or
        femfrn.c,   |  turbo C++
        obliq2d.c,
        shdiff.c,
        eigen.c and
        frn_dat.c
are stand alone packages. They can be run without decoding them to
any specific hardware platform. Read the appropriate *.txt files to run
        these softwares.

To facilitate decoding of the software written for PIP1024B for other
hardware platforms, an abridged list of PIP commands used are listed in
the file pipcomm.txt. This file is reproduced with permission from
     Matrox Electronics Systems, Canada.

The CD is organised chapterwise for easy accessability of the
software. Each chapter directory contains a text file giving brief
information on how to run the software. The user is adviced to read
these *.txt files before attempting to use or decode the software.
For detailed description on the algorithm used, the user is advised to
read the relevant portion of the book.

Please note: Chapters 2, 7 and 10 do not have separate directories as
no programs attached to these chapters are given in the book.

For most of the software, sample data and test images are provided.
The test images are organised into two directories namely RAW and TGA.
The images given in RAW directory can be directly used in PIP1024B
environment. The TGA directory is a replica of images in RAW directory
     in TGA format.

It is advisable to keep the executable file, the input data file and
test images in the same directory while running the software. Otherwise
     unexpected results may occur.

Every effort has been made to make the software free of errors.
However, we do not claim that the software has no bugs. Any omission
or errors and suggestion for improvement are welcome.

Apart from these software two interactive softwares "pscope.exe" and
     "pstdemo.exe" are included.

Pscope.exe works on Dos platform to simulate propagation of light vector
through the various optical elements in a polariscope. The software is
Dos based and to run, it requires the egavga.bgi file to initialise the
VGA display in graphics mode. This is a standard file, which come along
with compilers such as turbo pascal or turbo C.

Pstdemo.exe is windows based and work from windows 95 onwards.
As the name suggests, it provides a simple demo of images needed for
various phase shifting techniques. To run it requires the file
help.txt which is included in the CD.

Please note: Copy the files enclosed in the CD to your computer
by using standard utilities available in Dos or Windows. Then create
your own *.exe files for running them.
