Comparison of a postmortem anatomical preparation (A), T1-weighted image (B), and the DTI-based color map (C). In the anatomical preparation, the gray matter was removed to reveal the structural details of the white matter. In the color map, blue pixels have fibers running horizontally (anterior - posterior), green vertically (superior - inferior), and red perpendicular to the plane (left - right). The fiber directions based on the DTI measurement agree very well with the anatomical preparation (A), which can not be appreciated in the conventional MRI (B).
