Three-dimensional representation of mid-infrared microspectroscopic dataset for a mouse cerebellum. A mid-infrared spectral image has collected for a 10 micron thick section of a mouse cerebellum. The third dimension is the spectroscopic data. This can be visualized as a stack (left). The contrast can be adjusted to highlight special structural features of the section (center). The lower threshold has been increased above the level of "noise". Through contrast enhancement, spectral images for the protein and lipid fractions can be identified, highlighted and identified demonstrating the differential distribution of lipid and protein component gradients (right). The protein absorbance wavenumber is highlighted in red and the lipid absorbance wavenumber in green.
