Installation notes
PC version 1.01

</COMMENT>

The PC version of this cd-rom requires the prior installation of Java plug-in. If you can observe above an animation of the NH3 molecule, this means Java plug-in has already been installed on your computer. You can therefore proceed in using the software.

If this is not the case however, you must install Java plug-in now by doing one of the following :

  • Execute the setup program, j2re131.exe, which you can find in the directory plugin of your cd-rom. Then close all browser windows and restart the software.
  • If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may use this installation page.
  • Connect to the Java plug-in web site.

  • Please note :
  • Do not forget to turn the sound on : each animation is synchronized with a sound track.
  • In most pages, the simulation controls (mouse and keyboard) are locked until the end of the explanation. If you wish to use the simulation controls immediately, you can press the button below the simulation window. This will end the explanation and let you use all simulation controls. You can then restart the explanation by clicking on the button.
  • The buttons and on the left toolbar let you choose between two modes where the explanation either does (default) or does not start automatically when loading a new page.
  • In some cases an annoying window named "Java console" pops up when Java is started. This can be disabled using the Java plug-in setup program which you will find in the configuration panel of your computer.
  • If you do not wish to install Java plug-in, you can use the Mac version which does also work on a PC. Note however that the sound quality will not be as good (8 bits/8 kHz instead of 16 bits/22 kHz).
  • If some part of the animation window is not shown please increase the browser window size. If the screen resolution is only 800x600 it is required that you run the browser full screen (in IE hit the F11 key).
  • This software is intended for interactive use and is not optimized for printing. If you do wish to print anyway, you can use the Print function of your browser. However, please be aware that the page is a frameset and that you must choose how the different frames should be printed. If you wish to print only the animation screen you should first select the corresponding frame with the mouse and then choose "selected frame only" in the print dialog box.
