KnotPlot Output Formats
KnotPlot outputs to about 15 different file formats. Some
of these are geometric descriptions, some are pictures, and
some are just odd.
Surface descriptions
- optik
(polygons, bezier patches),
- dragon
(hierarchical Bspline patch),
- Alias Studio
(SDL polygons, SDL NURBS patch, see also DXF),
- Wavefront obj (polygons),
- DXF (Bspline patches, suitable for input into Alias Studio),
examples are
on-line,
- Alias Sketch! (Style Guide format),
- Spun knot surfaces as DXF patches or as Alias SDL.
Pictures
- Postscript (numerous flavours), examples can be
downloaded.
- SGI RGB,
- Imager RLE,
- PPM (raw).
Oddities
- Metafont.
- Knots may be exported (via DXF) as B-spline curves. This is
useful for more complex surface creation (via skinning
for example) in
Alias Studio
or other modelling software.
Also the curves may be used as animation paths.
