TranspirationTRANSPIRATION - is a process that removes water from soil and transfers it into water vapor in the atmosphere. Just as evaporation does it. The major difference is that in this case water is moved by plants that suck moisture from the soil with their roots, move it up into the canopy and then release into the air through leaves. As a result, there is more water available for transpiration, than there is for evaporation, that can pick up moisture only from the surface and the very top few centimeters of the soil. Transpiration can access water as deep as the roots extend. |
