Dr. Carl Fitz is a Lead Environmental Scientist in the Everglades Division at the
South Florida Water Management District, USA.
His main interests are in simulation modeling and
ecology, for which he has investigated systems ranging from coral reefs to
mangroves to fresh/salt water marshes. He currently develops process-based simulation models of a
variety of hydrologic/ecological systems at regional scales. His Ph.D. in
Ecology was from the University of Georgia's
Institute of Ecology,
after which he joined the faculty at the
University of Maryland's
Institute for Ecological Economics. There he became the
primary developer of the Everglades Landscape Model,
a tool to analyze Everglades regional dynamics. Subsequently, he took his current
position in Florida, where he continues the development and implementation of
the Everglades Landscape Model in order to help guide plans for Everglades
restoration.
