The South Florida Water Management Model (SFWMM) was initially developed by the SFWMD in the 1980's
MacVicar et al. (1984), and
has undergone refinement that continues in the
SFWMD Hydrologic Systems Modeling Division today. It's performance has been extensively reviewed,
and is the accepted tool for evaluating scenarios of water management for the regional south Florida
managed system. The ELM hydrology is being evaluated with regards to matching historical data and matching
the SFWMM output (within the ELM bounds) to the most reasonable degree possible (considering the scaling and
other differences). The ELM and CALM hydrology rely upon the SFWMM for boundary conditions to evaluate restoration
scenarios.
