Salinity is incorporated into the model as the total weight of salt in the water column (in kilograms). Spatially, salt is exchanged between cells based on the fraction of water moving out of the cell to the total amount of water in the cell:
salt exchange to the north = Salt * (surface water moving to north cell/total water volume)
Water volume and water movement are both calculated in the global input sector. Salt enters into the bay through river discharge.

* Note: only spatial movement to the north is portrayed here for the
sake of simplicity. Movement to the south, east, and west
is calculated in the same manner.
