USING THIS CD-ROM
  This CD-ROM (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) has been produced by Springer-
Verlag, in accordance with the Joliet CD-ROM Standard. It was designed to be
used on computers equipped with a CD-ROM reader and mouse and either IBM(tm)- 
compatible or MacIntosh(tm) hardware.

  The text portion of this CD can be read using an Adobe Acrobat Reader, which 
is available on the web at http://www.adobe.com as free-of-charge software.  The 
CD is structured with four directories:

  A. Contents of CD-ROM
     This directory describes the file contents of the other three directories
     and lists each file by number and a short descriptive title. This
     directory also contains descriptive captions for the selected figures
     contained in directory D.

  B. Maps and Charts 
     This directory contains seven files, CD01 to CD07.

  C. Selected Seismic Reflection Profiles
     This directory contains fourteen files, CD08 to CD18.

  D. Selected Figures from the Text
     The file names in this directory were constructed to include the chapter
     number followed by the figure number (i.e., file 02.13 is Fig. 2.13, which
     is the thirteenth figure in chapter two. The files are sorted in numerical
     order.

  All files on the CD are in portable document format and have the .pdf file
extension and were constructed with the Adobe Acrobat version 5 software.
