The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters [Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab] in Trondheim has, every year since 1927, issued a memorial medal (jeton) adorned with the portrait of a scientist. This makes the Society's medal series unique in the Norwegian medal history, and, not lesst, to an amusing domain for Norwegian medal enthusiasts. On the occasion of the Bicentennial, it was Niels Henrik Abel who adorned the memorial medal.
