NK1469 The only existing portrait of Niels Henrik Abel is a drawing made by Johann Gørbitz in 1826. It is presently at the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oslo, and was used by Sverre Morken as model for his engraving for the stamp valued NOK 5,50. At the left one can see the lemniscate shaped as the sign for infinity. The lemniscate is an interesting curve of degree 4 that Abel studied thoroughly.

NK1470 The main element here is a computer generated guilloched rosette. At left is the title page of the collected works of Abel from 1881.
