| The sculptor Ingebrikt Vik won the national competition
for an Abel monument in 1902. But it took until 1966–69 before
his winning project was cast in bronze. However, it was then
cast in two versions, one for the Vik museum and one that is
now adorning the garden of the Niels Henrik Abel Building at the
