Readme for your Landolt-Boernstein CD-ROM 

1)  We recommend to use the Acrobat reader 4.05 with Search, English , 

    In order to run the Acrobat Reader with Search, i.e. full text index, 
    you have to install it on your harddisk first.

    Available on the CD-ROM there are: 
    Acrobat Reader 4.05 + Search for Windows 95, 98, & NT 4.0 6.6 MB
    Acrobat Reader 4.05 + Search for Macintosh (MacBinary) 6.0 MB

2)  After installation of a suitable reader version start by
    double clicking on the respective executable program file.
    For example the 32 bit (MS-Windows 95)-version is started by
    double clicking on ACRORD32.exe.

3)  Open the file start.pdf in the root of the CD-ROM and  
    proceed by mouse click on the links. The PDF files are accessed by following 
    the link "Electronic version".


4)  For MS-Windows 95 and 98 the program CURVESCAN may be installed from
    the respective folder on the CD-ROM. This program can be used to 
    digitize curves in diagrams of the pdf files and import the data into 
    other applications.

    In using this program it is recommended to deactivate in 
    File menue/General Preferences of Acrobat Reader or Adobe Acrobat 
    the setting "Smooth text and images". Zoom into the figure to a suitable 
    resolution and copy it via clipboard to CURVESCAN.
