# Tell user to stop the license manager - PC
You only need to worry about stopping the
license manager if a previous version of
Sonnet has been installed on your machine.
If this is the first time Sonnet software
has been installed on this machine, then
continue with Make License.

If your previous installation of Sonnet
software was a standard evaluation copy
(demo) of Sonnet, you did not require a
license manager. Therefore, you may
continue with Make License.

All other types of installations require
a license server. The license server
is the machine running the license manager.
The license manager is FLEXlm software,
provided along with the Sonnet software,
which administers the licenses.

If you are presently running Sonnet only
on this computer with a node-locked
license then this machine is the license
server. The license manager, if running,
needs to be stopped before proceeding with
Make License.

If you are on a network and are not sure if
this machine is the license server, please
contact your system administrator to deter-
mine if your machine is the license server.

For instructions on how to stop the
license manager, see the section "Stopping
the License Manager" in Chapter 8 of the
8.0 Windows Installation Manual. To
access the Sonnet User's manuals, click on the
Manuals button on the Sonnet task bar. On the
page which appears, click on the "Installation
and Administration" button. Then click on the
"Windows Installation" button. This opens the
Windows Installation manual.
