Description of the content of the CD together with advice for the proper use
of the files. All documents on the CD can be used on any platform and can be
read under UNIX / LINUX or under Windows on workstations or on a PC with
convenient software tools (see below).

(1) File: bu-gesamt-pdf.pdf

This file contains the whole book in PDF format with a content table, a
bibliography, a list of figures and a comprehensive index. The file, which is
highly interlinked, can be read with a normal reader freely accessible on the
Internet (e.g. Adobe's Acrobat Reader [Registered Trademark]). By means
of this tool, active links (marked by red or green) can be simply followed
by mouse clicks. It is also possible to search for special concepts / terms
using the "Find"-function of the reader (this search includes that for
concepts in figures and tables).

In case of difficulties in grasping links by means of the mouse (this
sometimes happens with certain readers when using links stretching over two
lines), please increase the zoom factor or select the neighbor link in the
text. The best readability is achieved with the options "Fit visible" or
"Fit width" while working with the Acrobat Reader.

(2) Directory: TOUR; File: index.html (start page)

This directory contains an HTML-based demonstration tour in English and
German, giving an impression of the embedding of the MultiNet paradigm into
different software tools and applications. The tour is started by loading
the file into an appropriate Internet browser able to interpret tables (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Netscape [Registered Trademarks]). There are two different types of links: the first one, marked blue or violet, can be followed without being connected to the Internet; links of the second type, marked green, are genuine URLs on the web and can only be followed if your computer is connected to the Internet.

The different topics of the tour are accessible by following the
corresponding links on the start page:

Tools: * MultiNet - the knowledge representation paradigm
               * MWR - the workbench for the knowledge engineer
               * LIA - the workbench for the computer lexicographer
               * WOCADI (NatLink) - a system for translating natural
                                    language expressions into MultiNet

Applications: * NLI-Z39.50 - a natural language interface to the Internet
                                 (using the Z39.50 protocol)
                 * VILAB       - a virtual electronic laboratory
(which is especially suited to teach the
                                  fundamentals of MultiNet)

Resources: * HaGenLex - the computational lexicon of the IICS group,
                                 which is based on MultiNet.

For more information about the IICS group, a list of actual publications, and more detailed German descriptions, the reader is referred to the home page of this group:
