Ezio
Faccioli, Ph. D. in Civil Engineering (University of Illinois), is Full
Professor of Earthquake Engineering at the Technical University of
Milan (Politecnico di Milano), Italy. He is currently one of the
Directors of the International Association of Earthquake Engineering
(IAEE) and Coordinating Editor of the Journal of Seismology.
Since 1990, he has been overall co-ordinator or team leader in several
European Commission research projects on seismic risk,
soil-structure interaction and geotechnical earthquake engineering,
and convenor of the panel charged with drafting of Part 5 of
Eurocode 8 (Design of structures for earthquake resistance), now a
European Norm. In Italy, he was member of the group charged by
Italian Government of drafting the new seismic code issued in 2003, and
is currently coordinator of a research project that will produce
seismic hazard maps of Italy in terms of long period spectral
displacement.
He published over 30 international journal articles and co-authored a
few books, both in English and Italian, dealing with seismic wave
propagation, site effects, and the geotechnical and soil dynamics
aspects of Earthquake Engineering. He has earned from the US Earthquake
Engineering Research Institute the Outstanding
Earthquake Spectra Paper Award of 2004.
