Francisco J. Chávez García

He graduated with honors as Geophysical Engineer from the School of Engineering, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, before pursuing graduate studies at Université Joseph Fourier at Grenoble France. He returned to Mexico to work at the Earthquake Engineering Department of Instituto de Ingeniería, UNAM, where he is now Full Professor.

He has been involved in research concerning observations and modeling of site effects during the past 20 years, in university research projects and private consulting. He is a teacher in the School of Engineering and in the Geophysics graduate program both at UNAM. He has authored or co-authored 50 papers in indexed journals and published 67 papers in specialty conferences. He has been invited professor at IGNS, New Zealand, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, Universidad de Almería, Spain, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He has been invited to present conferences and give short courses by universities in Mexico and Colombia. He is currently associate editor of the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America.
